Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes specially chosen by Delices and Gourmandises

Although Less famous than other wines of Alsace, the Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes proposed by Delices and Gourmandises will seduce you with its freshness and lightness.

A light white wine from Délices et Gourmandises catalog

Grown in the vineyards of Alsace, the Sylvaner is a white wine grape that comes back to date after years of bad reputation. In the sixties, this grape was indeed subject to dubious wine-making practices: chaptalization (the process of adding sugar to increase alcohol content), frantic “search for yield”, filtering with asbestos, rough winemaking process… This wine then irritated both palate and stomach.

Fortunately, it gradually improved in quality at the initiative of young winemakers, recovering all its former qualities of freshness and lightness, although it had difficulties to make its way in the shadow of other famous Alsatian wines. With more attention, the “little” Sylvaner eventually managed, after all, to win the grand cru appellation, thanks to some producers, while others went into its bio-dynamic culture. A 2001 vintage Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes even received five stars in the “Revue du Vin de France” magazine.

Delices and Gourmandises was therefore right to select it for its cellar and so allow us to rediscover this once disliked of Alsatian white wine production.

Undeniable qualities noticed by Délices et Gourmandises

seafood-platter-delices-gourmandisesSylvaner is a pleasant and well-balanced white wine. Soft and mellow in the mouth, it has a complex bouquet of fruity citrus aromas, floral and freshly cut grass. Overmature, it is adorned with dried fruit and honey flavors that lengthy finish on the palate. It is a thirst quenching wine to enjoy with a platter of charcuterie or seafood.

The Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes is one of the AOC presented by Delices and Gourmandises that will ideally age in the cellar for a few years.
